About Bowen
The Bowen Technique was developed by Tom Bowen, an Australian, in the 1950’s. Tom had the belief that the body has its own ability to adjust, adapt and heal itself.
Bowen is suitable for anyone of any age, from newborn babies right up to the elderly. It is recommended that 2–3 sessions of Bowen are attended at weekly intervals initially, and then each client is reassessed to see if any further treatments are still required.
What is Bowen?
The Bowen Technique is a non-invasive soft-tissue complementary therapy that focuses on the whole person, not just a specific condition. It targets specific points on the body with gentle rolling movements of the therapists thumbs or fingers on muscles, tendons, ligaments and the fascia to help it balance, repair and reset itself. The moves that are made, send impulses to the brain, which then trigger the body’s own healing process to begin, which in turn rebalances the body’s energy.
There are rest intervals during the treatment to realign the body. The pressure used during the treatment depends on individual preference and is also tailored to suit the needs of the client. Bowen therapy is an excellent way to help relieve every day stresses and re-energises the whole person. It also brings relief of pain and discomfort from physical restrictions.
